German Shorthaired Pointer Association – Latest News
It is with great sadness I write about the passing of Ruby Field, who along with her husband, Jim, are the owners of the Deepthatch Kennel of dual purpose German Shorthaired Pointers, which began in 1954 and with the help of Ruby’s aunt Mrs Bibby of the Windlehall Kennel.
Over the years Ruby and Jim became dedicated to producing healthy dual purpose GSP’s that could perform both well in the field and showring, with many dogs gaining top Field Trial awards and considerable success in Working Tests and at Championship Shows.
With Deepthatch Lovesong winning over 40 Field Trial awards. She was also the top HPR Working Test winner in 1998 – 9 – 2000, with several firsts at Championship Shows.
Ruby became an International Championship Show judge and judged several times in America and also Germany.
Ruby had been Show Secretary for the GSPC and along with Jim were made Honorary Life members of the GSPC and GSPA.
In 2008, at Crufts, she had the largest ever entry of GSP’s with 242 dogs entered. Unfortunately these numbers will never been seen again due to the docking ban.
Ruby will be missed by many at the Field Trials, Working Tests and the ringside, where she would supply people with refreshments and was well known for her beautiful sponge cakes.
An honest, genuine, kind lady with a love and passion for the breed, with an eye for a dog and could remember dogs she had judged years ago and describe them in detail.
We send our heartfelt condolences to her husband Jim, son Karl and granddaughter Carra.
It is with regret we have decided to cancel our Championship show on Easter Monday 13th April. It will not be rescheduled. We have requested that Fosse Data refund your entry fees, less the administration charge you paid. Huge apologies and we hope you understand , it was not a decision made lightly.
