Show Report
It was my great pleasure and privilege to be invited to judge for your Association, and I really appreciate the honour. I thoroughly enjoyed the assignment. The atmosphere and sporting manner in which my decisions, right or wrong, were accepted and greeted, were particularly pleasing.
Carolyn and I cannot sufficiently express our thanks to those Office-bearers, Committee and others who made us feel so welcome and looked after us in style.
The magnificent crystal decanter presented to me will be a constant reminder of a great experience.
We were even happy to see the somewhat unseasonable snow – not much of that in Sydney! My general observations on your GSP’s: some were larger than I prefer, quite a few had forequarter problems (short upper arm, insufficient prosternum, excessive width) but the great majority could obviously do the job for which they were bred. Mouths were excellent throughout. Almost all heads were pleasing to the eye, but as to the other end, why oh why are so many tails docked so short? It spoils the overall balance of the dog! Some hindquarters could be improved – there were a few cow hocks with resultant lack of drive – but in the main, reach and drive were good.
Having said all that, I was very pleased and impressed with the overall standard and quality of your dogs – you should all be proud. My top winners were superb examples of the breed, sharing many characteristics. I was not surprised to learn they were ‘family’. I learned that Sh Ch Barleyarch Pickpocket, my BIS, is as a result, now the joint breed record holder with 42 CC’s. Not hard to see why!Again, thank you all for the invitation and the sporting acceptance of my judging. I hope the following critiques are useful.

Dogs
Special Beginners (3 – 1a)
- Croal’s Waldecke Otto at Nunivos , 3 year old black dog of very good type, pleasing size and proportions, good topline, taut coat, would prefer slightly stronger head and tidier movement.
- Redferne’s Hazelcorn Avocet , 16 months, liver/white making show debut. Fair type, needs stronger hindquarters and rear propulsion. May improve with work and training.
Minor Puppy (3 - 1a)
- Adam’s Barleyarch Alvar, 8 month old l/w of very good type, correct size, sufficient bone, pleasant head and expression. Good lay of shoulder, elegant sweep of neck. Moves with purpose, soundly fore and aft, courtesy of balanced angles and powerful hindquarter.
- Roberts’ Isara Kurzhaar Quick Temper, up-to-size bright l/w, just 7 months and with much development yet to come of head, chest and co-ordination.
Puppy (5)
- Naylor’s Bitternboom Andy, young l/w tick/patch. Good size and proportions, balanced, pleasing head and expression. Sufficient substance, moves well.
- Fantom’s Redic Hedwig, well-made puppy of good type, size and bone. Not quite the balance or topline of winner.
- Collins’ Twice As Nice of Forestpoint.
Junior (7 – 2a)
- Fantom’s Redic Gforce, compact, well-constructed l/w with good bone, correct proportions, balance, moves easily and steadily.
- Towns and Lay’s Indijazz Impressionist, very nice type l/w, pleasing outline, good topline, neck and shoulders. Tends to lay back a little on the stack, and movement somewhat wayward. Didn’t help his handler on the day.
- Thomson’s Sarscotta Scott’s Mist.
Maiden (6)
- Croal’s Waldecke Otto at Nunivos, (as SB) but in this class performed particularly well and impressed even more. A happy dog.
- Thomson’s Sarscotta Systematic, compact l/roan, balanced angulation, sufficient substance, moves quite well but without the enthusiasm of winner.
- Ideson’s Birkenwald Borris at Heathermark.
Novice (6)
- Adams’ Barleyarch Alvar (as MP)
- Towns & Lays’ Indijazz Impressionist (as JD)
- Fantom’s Redic Hedwig (as PD)
Graduate (6)
- Roberts’ Isara Kurzhaar Pubcrawler JW, strong, masculine dog in glorious rich dark liver jacket, well boned, balanced angulation, pleasing head and expression, moves with great purpose.
- Burrows’ Coralbrook Gladiator, another very good quality liver, overall construction and outline very pleasing. Good head and expression, not quite so clean in movement.
- Towns and Lay’s Indijazz Impressionist.
Post Graduate (13)
- Stedman’s Indijazz Grand Designer, medium sized, solid black of excellent type, balance and soundness. Masculine head with lovely dark eyes and true GSP expression. Super outline, level topline, deep chest, balanced angulations with good turn of stifle. Moves with great purpose and clean through action. Gleaming coat. RCC.
- Duncan’s Magregor Pukka JW ShCM, l/w of very good type, a little more up to size, with strong topline, well made fore and hindquarters, overall a nice GSP. Not quite the movement of winner.
- Brown and Filby’s Winterwell Babbity Bumble at Desjiem.
Limit (22 – 2a)
- Kingston’s Jennaline Pete’s Uptown JW, this dog defines the word ‘square’ in the GSP. Tight front, elegant neck into shoulder, lovely outline, masculine head and expression, well balanced. Moves cleanly with good drive and no overreaching. Super harsh coat.
- Woodcock and Peebles’ Keigame Super Duper, strongly made liver, large than winner but still quite acceptable to this Judge; very good type, with level topline, correct tail set, deep chest, pleasing head. Not quite the forequarter of winner. Moves with purpose.
- Winstanley and Stanton’s Ehupits Hagan at Radstorm.
Open (9 – 1a)
- Halpin’s Sh Ch Barleyarch Maestro JW, well-balanced l/w dog of excellent type and overall construction. Masculine head with dark eye and kindly expression; strong, well arched neck blending into well-laid shoulders. Chest deep and well-ribbed back, level topline with well-set croup and correct tail set and carriage. Well-boned throughout, with excellent feet. Stands and moves true fore and aft, covers ground well in gait. CC and RBIS.
- Dawson and Walker’s Sh Ch Jolicoem Krakatau JW, very good type, again with level topline and well-made chest, nice flow of neck into shoulder, taut, harsh coat. Not quite the balance of winner, but a very worthy GSP. Moves soundly. Considered for Reserve.
- Roden’s Sh Ch Barleyarch Cricket at Keigame JW.
Veteran (2)
- Hallam’s Lipplinger Nene, attractive bright l/w, a young 9 year old; very fit, a little up to size, but with very good head and expression, overall construction and movement.
- Thompson’s Sh Ch Redmires Valentino’s Star, good type generally, well put together with firm, level topline, good depth of chest, pleasant head. Would prefer a little longer upper arm. Not as tidy on the move as winner.
Field Trial (1)
- Robson’s Collwarwick Masquerade, strongly made liver roan of very good type. Size, construction and movement all certainly fit the breed’s requirements, though I would prefer a slightly stronger foreface.
Bitches
Special Beginners (2)
- Harrison’s Buntinos Blueberry, 10 month old l/w, feminine, typey, pretty head, good overall construction, will settle with time on the move.
- Farrer’s Buntinos Beta Vulgaris, no surprise to learn these are litter sisters but this youngster is, I feel, a little behind her sister in development at this stage.
Minor Puppy (5)
- Trow and Josey’s Keigame Bosanova around Winterwell, delightful, compact, solid liver, barely six months, so well put together. Super outline, level topline, correct tail set and carriage, lovely reach of neck into well-laid shoulder. Balanced throughout, so well angulated fore and aft. Very sweet head and expression. Moves so truly and with excellent reach and drive for one so young. BPIS. Considered for Res CC, could take her home!
- Harris’ Barleyarch Pixie, quality, feminine, l/w puppy with much to offer and to come. Very good type, well-conformed in every respect. Balanced, level topline when standing, pleasing neck into shoulder, correct tail set. Moves soundly, a little high behind at the moment.
- Cox’s Cushatlaw Honey Pie.
Puppy (6)
- Keigame Bosanova around Winterwell, (as MPB). Comments as above, except to mention her happy, outgoing personality.
- Squire’s Taftazini Wilshee Wyn, nicely put together l/w, not quite as winner; very sweet head and expression, good topline, moves quite soundly.
- Nixon’s Quintana Magic Time.
Junior (15 – 1a)
- Towns and Lay’s Indijazz Its Showtime, 12 month old solid liver, lovely refined lines, up to size but not over. Typical feminine head, smooth flow of neck into well-laid shoulder, balanced both ends. Carries herself very well on the move, side gait and coming/going.
- Greenwood’s Indijazz Ice Maiden, very similar in type – again, no surprise litter sister of above. Stylish, quality youngster needing a little longer upper arm to match and out move her sister.
- Roden’s Keigame Concerto.
Maiden (6)
- Keigame Bosanova around Winterwell, (as MPB and PB). Not to be denied a third class win today – I hope this delightful youngster fulfils her promise.
- Cox’s Cutashlaw Honey Pie, feminine, well-constructed youngster with pleasing head and expression, adequate substance, good topline with correct tail carriage. Not quite the balance or movement of winner.
- Taftazini Wilshee Wyn.
Novice (7)
- Keigame Bosanova Around Winterwell, (as 3 previous classes). For her first show, is now behaving like a veteran. Again, could not find one to head her off.
- Barleyarch Pixie, (as MPB). A lovely young lady, just unlucky to meet the winner with me judging!
- Keigame Concerto
Graduate (7 – 2a)
- Roberts’ Isara Kurzhaar Ona Promise JW, solid liver of style and substance, pleasant head, nice flow of neck into shoulder; good topline, tail set and carriage. Covers ground well.
- Winstanley and Stanton’s Keigame the Witching Hour at Radstorm JW, l/w bitch of pleasing proportions, balanced, feminine with sufficient substance, typical head and expression. Not quite as tidy on the move as winner.
- Malton’s Redic Dirty Dancing.
Post Graduate (14 – 4a)
- Hammond’s Winterwell National Velvet at Seasham, compact l/w, balanced with pleasing outline, nice head, plenty of neck into well-laid shoulder. Strong topline, correct tail set. Moves with purpose, could be tighter in front.
- Brown’s Montalba Mille Chirum, l/w longer-cast than winner, not quite the forehand angulation, but generally well-made, with well-formed chest and good topline. Movement sound.
- Whitworth’s Bryburn Suesanna of Pitwit JW.
Limit (17 – 2a)
- Joy’s Mannlicher Early Bird. Compact, sturdy yet feminine bitch, liver/roan with pleasing head and expression, good topline from head to tail, sufficient depth of chest and prosternum. Moves freely.
- Garvey’s Richtig Juniper, bright l/w patch and speckle, slightly larger than winner, but a quality bitch of good overall conformation. Pleasant head, good topline and underline, sufficient angulation, moves quite well.
- Hallam’s Redic Aloise.
Open (8 – 2a)
- Harris’ Sh Ch Barleyarch Pickpocket, type, balance, harmony, style and soundness in one nicely-sized packet. Attracts the eye standing or moving. Correct proportions, lovely flow of neck into well-laid shoulder and strong, level, short back and correct tail set. Feminine head and expression, correctly balanced, with good dark eyes. Sufficient prosternum, correct depth, shape and length of ribcage giving sweeping underline to complement level topline. Matching angulation fore and aft, giving free, smooth, ground-covering gait, true coming and going. A stand-out, obviously in her prime. CC and BIS.
- Roden’s Sh Ch Keigame Harlette JW ShCM, solid liver bitch of very good proportions and lovely outline, correct tail set, balanced angulation, sufficient substance. Moves tidily and with purpose. Just shaded overall by winner. Res CC.

Veteran (4 – 1a)
- Glen and Shields’ Sh Ch and Ir Sh Ch Hillani Thalia, stylish, upstanding 7 year old; solid liver, very good type, well conditioned, well put together. Moves better than many of the younger exhibits!
- Staley’s Dorntanza Kali, very good quality, 10 year old roan bitch, compact, holding strong topline. Movement not as purposeful as winner.
- Thomson’s Sarscottah Ladyhawk.
Field Trial (4)
- Nixon’s Quintana Tiffin Time, bright l/w of good size, square, pleasing head and expression strong topline, balanced angulations, smooth flow of neck into shoulder. Good tail set, but reluctant to use it in movement. Nevertheless, moves cleanly and with purpose (Best FT).
- Field’s Deepthatch Nouvelle Lexi, liver/white blanket and speckle, slightly longer in loin than winner, good size, well angulated, pleasant head, covers ground quite well.
- Allerton’s Birkenwald Roni of Eshaldwell.
