There are two major types of show; Championship Shows and Open Shows.
Championship Show
A Championship show is where everyone hopes to make his or her dog into a champion. The classes and procedures are similar to the Open show, but the dogs and bitches are judged separately. Dogs first followed by the bitches, the winner of both the dog and the bitch will then receive a challenge certificate (CC) this is the aim for everyone who shows dogs. Both dog and bitch CC winners are then judged together, the winner being declared Best of Breed and being eligible to compete in the Gundog Group and if it is fortunate enough to win that, then compete against other six group winners for Best in Show.

If and when your dog receives three Challenge Certificates you are entitled to call it Show Champion, a very proud moment indeed.
Open Show
An open show is where most people start showing. It has specific classes for the chosen breed, where your dog is entered in the correct class for its age or achievement, from Minor Puppy at six months of age (which is the earliest it can be shown) to Open, where the dogs entered in this class have won their way through the previous classes.
From the winner of each class will be chosen one dog, which will be awarded best of breed. This entitles that dog to enter into the group for its breed, or if the open show is not run on a group system, it will enter in the best in show, along with all other best of breed winners from the other breeds at the show.
The GSPA also runs a KC licenced show of each type every year.
