The GSPA run Novice, All-Aged and Open stake field trials during the shooting season.
All field trials will be held under Kennel Club field trial rules and regulations and those of the GSPA.

A field trial for breeds which Hunt, Point and Retrieve should be run as nearly as possible to an ordinary days rough shooting for a small party of guns numbering not more than four in total. There will be a maximum of twelve dogs running in each stake. Dogs under 12 months on the day of the trial shall not be entered.



Basic requirements for dogs entered in field trials (K.C.F.T. Regs. J(A)5a) are that all dogs shall be required to quarter ground in search of game, to point game, to flush on command, to be steady to flush, shot and fall, and to retrieve tenderly to hand from land or water.
- NOVICE - A stake confined to dogs which have not gained the following awards,First, second or third in open stakes or first in other stakes
- ALL AGED - A stake which is open to all dogs of a specified breed or breeds without restriction to their age but which may be restricted by any other conditions which may be determined by the society promoting the field trial.
- OPEN - A stake in which dogs have the opportunity of gaining qualification (whole or part) for the title of field trial champion.
